I think most of the dictatorial behavior we see in our workplaces comes from deep insecurity and a mistaken notion that you can’t motivate people if you’re nice. The opposite is true: Anything a strict leader does can be done by a person being kind. You can give the same orders and ask for the same things, the only difference is you’ll be a more positive person in one scenario.

When it comes to building a supportive, nurturing workplace, you can get things done more easily and quickly if you just behave kindly and with empathy. It will make you and your employees happier as well.

What I’ve noticed over many years of consulting is that leaders who are kind create much more healthy and productive workplaces where work gets done more easily and quickly.
