Too often, leaders just bark orders, expect work to be done, nitpick, and then are baffled when people are unhappy. They don’t seem to understand that employees who are praised tend to be more motivated and productive because their good work is being noticed.

Empathetic leaders understand that praising their employees is one of the best ways to create a supportive and nurturing workplace culture. When you praise someone, they are much more likely to repeat the positive behavior and look for ways to do an even better job.

A great way to make sure your employees are much happier and more dedicated is to consistently notice the things they do well and then just say something positive with no qualifications or caveats.

The reason I know praise works is that, throughout my consulting career, I’ve noticed that leaders who praise their employees create much healthier and productive organizations.
