A lot of workplaces stagnate because leaders don’t know how to problem solve but, in my experience, there is a straight-forward approach that can help everyone move past challenges and create a more collaborative atmosphere.

To practice effective problem solving, assemble the people involved and do the following together: Name the problem, brainstorm ways of addressing it, pick one brainstorm item to work on, have each person involved choose what they want to do to work on the item, and start the process all over.

When you and your staff learn and practice this straight-forward methodology, you’ll be overcome any problem that gets in your way and you’ll all be on the same page.

The reason I know this approach works is that, over the course of my consulting career, I’ve seen organizations go from being problem-riddled to collaboratively overcoming any complication that presents itself.
